About Us

Our Mission

Help veterans heal, connect, and thrive, in the field, on the water, and around the fire.

“CheckPoint Veterans exists to help combat veteran suicide by building a strong community where veterans reconnect through the healing power of the outdoors. We provide opportunities for veterans to hunt, fish, hike, play golf, and participate in outdoor adventures and wellness activities that strengthen physical health, improve mental well-being, and foster lifelong friendships. Through camaraderie, purpose, and shared experiences, we strive to ensure that no veteran faces life's challenges alone.”

The Name

Why “Checkpoint”?

CheckPoint Veterans was formed in October 2025 by veterans from George West and the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. The organization takes its name from the Border Patrol immigration checkpoint located almost exactly between those two communities, roughly the midpoint between where our founders call home.

But the name means more than geography. Checkpoint is a strong, familiar term for veterans and active-duty service members from every branch of the Armed Forces. It naturally resonates with the community we exist to serve, while also symbolizing progress, safety, and connection. It's a place where veterans regroup, support one another, and continue moving forward together.
